Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Jo

This is to say the least, a strange movie. Disturbing, visually sound and very different.
It did make me feel ill in some scenes, but this disturbing film is good. It does dare step beyond the norm of mainstream filmmaking.

I do feel like I understand where the filmmakers were going. It's brutal yet beautiful.
I do give applaud to creating a different movie. The storyline is farfetched at times, well, the main plot is. Sort of supernatural meets old world Paris.

There are some great actors here (Dustin Hoffman and that 'scary teacher' from Harry Potter) and some of the imageries were haunting and beautiful…
Not something I'd recommend to conservatives, but well worth a look if you can stomach it…

The Wrong Man (Lucky Number Slevin) - Jo

This is a fantastic movie! So entertaining, so engaging, so worth the watch! A great blend of comedy, a little suspense, and very witty.
My sexy cohort watched this before me, and gave it props (apologies for the homie G ref…)
So he had already somewhat placed the movie on a 'pedestal' so to speak…

Yet despite having elevated expectations, this movie was superb! Charismatic and interesting characters, simple yet such effective backdrops, and the storyline was clever but not conceited…
This director (Scottish McGuigan) played on unique camera angles and effects. Nothing over the top, just simple and unique effects.

This movie was very character driven. Everyone played well, and despite this director being fairly 'unknown', he pulled some great names! - Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu (I usually don't like her, but she is great in this movie), Ben Kingsley…
Go and watch this now!!

Times on the park - The Sheraton Hotel, Sydney

Funny story this. Yesterday my lovely cohort decided to take me to this restaurant Times on the park after seeing it advertised somewhere. So we both tryingly found our way there after traffic and parking dramas. The funny part is, as we both have never been, we initially went to the wrong restaurant in the Sheraton! After we quickly realised this, and after ordering drinks, the staff at the 'incorrect' joint kindly escorted us to the 'correct' joint so we could dine there. They even agreed to let us bring our drinks over…

Now to the review…

Ambiance was nice. Nicely dimmed lighting with a lit candle on every table. The chairs were cushy and very comfortable. They were playing a range of Sinatra and Buble type music.

The service was top notch. Well spoken waiters that were not too pushy. Our waitress refilled our water glasses every time they were low.

Food…
I had a sweet potato and goats cheese strudel. We shared a side of hand cut potato chips and green salad. The strudel was very tasty, and was not heavy. The potato chips tasted like 'sweet potato', and were OK. The green salad was fresh and light.

Overall it was a very pleasant evening. The meal was very satisfactory and service was impressive. I also had a few bite's of my cohort's meal, his meal was divine! I will allow him to elaborate on his review….

Spiderman 3

Yeah this is an entertaining movie... Not the best out of the so far trilogy, but it had action, drama, romance and heartbreak. All good elements to a great action film...

They did put too many bad guys, kinda like too many chefs spoil the broth... Sandman's role I found was redundant, and the fact they he ended up being the guy who shot Uncle Ben, made no sense... But ah well...

The original cast shines, and venon was cool... The Peter Parker emo looked scared me, but it just comes to show, emo IS evil!

7/10

the number 23

this is a neat film about memory loss and murder...upon seeing the trailer some time back i was really drawn in by jim's performance and felt that this was something special...turns out i was right...

its a cool film with really subtle touches with visual effects that are so under used they really dont look like there has been any added which is the goal i guess, on top of that it was made for a meager budget i heard, plus it was directed by joel schumacher..yes he may have almost killed the batman franchise but you cant deny hes a great director!!

starwars ep 6 - the original

finally i got this one in my midst...this one was a hard one to track down..

anyway i really liked the 3rd installment and found it to be dark and yet have a nice balance with the cute ewoks...i appreciated the subtle singing from the puppet during jabbas scene and hate the addition of the duo in the re release...

7/10 - cant beat the original

spiderman 3

although i was a bit upset with venom being in the 3rd movie i have to say they pulled it off and managed to have a decent story with all these new characters and story lines without having it really sag with dialogue...

the only detraction was the addition of 3 new characters and not using them enough...what would have made more sense was to include the vulture which they were going to do originally with ben kingsley..and focused on him and doc conners to do with genetics and eventually leading to the lizard...and then possibly setting up gwen stacey...but alas..

watching it the second and 3rd time with commentary i was really impressed with the fight sequences but disappointed with the score (IM AN ELFMAN FAN)

7/10 - awesome sequel not quite as good as the 2nd but it had venom
