writer - mark waid
artist - byran hitch
If it wasnt for hitch's art i wouldnt have gotten the trade. these 2 trades are actually linked - first story arc follows the tower of babel story line from the previous volume - gist of story is batmans so paranoid that he kept files on how to take down the jla if they ever turned rouge - rahs al ghoul managed to steal the info and turned it on them. They obviously survived the ordeal and they kicked batman out. Cut to now, friction is building within the team as they are split down the middle some didnt want bats to leave the others did leaving the members to distrust one another.
First story in the volume is about a witch who is let loose in manhattan and has all the powers of a fairy tale story, they manage to trick her into thinking she has no power in this world and lock her back into a tax file which is kinda lame. second story is about aliens that let a entity loose on earth that twists people wishes into reality - they manage to stop it only to find the aliens were bad. forcing martian man hunter to quell the situation.
The second volume starts again from manhunters point of view, because of last story line this one is linked to him as when he was separated from him his human forma nd alien the mind control he had over the evil white martians has resended and they are set free to eat human brains and try to turn earths atmospherre more to their liking - less oxygenaterd as they are afraid of fire....
very basic and kiddy type stories from a long existing superhero group, they leave the bad guys to continue to do bad guy things which is gay and they are constatly put in harms way or having to resolve earths armageddon type situations - it would make more sense when in volume ones second story when they were split into their civilian identities and superhero that they could do more good by doing that full time...but given they want a normal life who can blame them??
6/10 - bryan hitch didnt illustrate both volumes completely hence the low score
