this holds a very special place in my heart for 2 reasons. the first is that this is the first film that i remember as a child that my entire family watched together in beverley hills cinema and came out wondering how they brought dinosaurs to life and having a reat time watching it. the second is that every kid has some innate desire to watch these magestic beasts come to life in one form or another. i remember visiting a museum after these films came out and just wanted to draw and see these creatures for myself and wishing they were real.
Spielberg does a brilliant job of balancing an adventure film, a learning film and a kids film without going over the top with all the campy jokes and sappy feeling that are inherit with these type of films. theres a perfect blend of humour, action and exposition that propels the story forward and doesnt leave you restless between scenes waiting for the next shot of a prehistoric beast roaming across the screen.
8/10 - wonderful from start to finish although the kids do get a bit on your nerves
7/10 - great behind the scenes but too many still shots
