this brings me back!! i remembered how gorgeous and visually stunning this was and how unfortunate that the story was so boring....cut to 2007 and i still think the very same of this movie, but at least with a little more understanding thanks to the fantastic behind the scenes special 2 disc feature this dvd contains!!
tim burton is a really master at making very diverse films....especially with this film you cant help but acknowledge this film as a historic achievement in film history by a very eccentric but brilliant man. this is not so much a remake as it is a retelling of a classic movie about man who confronts his very humanity!
the original was more of a theological picture about mans stance in a world where he is not the top of the evolutionary chain. humans are so unevolved they cant talk and are dominated by our simian counter parts forcing him to come to reason with a different species.
this film however has an entirely different story, man stumbles upon a different galaxy, im not sure but possibly a future where apes rule this world - and whalbergs character is so unsympathetic that when he has a chance to go back to his world he doesnt hesitate...(never understood hollywoods obsession with him)
7/10 - look for charlton hestons cameo!! tim roth is also unrecognisable!!
