my lil bro purchased the rambo trilogy yesterday and i couldnt help myself but watch this series for myself as i have ashamedly not seen alot of sly's earlier work.
im astonished that this kid who was born in the Bronx, over came having half his face paralysed from birth which caused him to both speak in a slurred fashion and scowl half the time, then go on to become a very popular writer, director and actor. he's written and directed some of the most prolific films of our time and its a shame that he needs to constatly go back to the well each time especially with his latest rocky balboa and rambo 4 which is what made me want to watch this in the first place. compared to arnie who has more charisma as an actor, i respect him for his successful and varied carrier.
much to my dismay these dvds do not have any special features so i cannot gain any insight to what drove sly to co write all 3 rambo movies.
this has to be arguably the first and best in the series as it is a psychological driven piece about a vietnam vet who becomes a drifter and happens to chance by a small town protected by a sheriff that deosnt want its peaceful tranquility disturbed by outside shady characters. so as not to give away the entire film, everything goes south when they try to strong arm him into leaving resulting in explosive action/hunt sequences that make this film a landmark in film history.
8/10 - it speaks volumes about a then very tense world where the vietnam war left a very bad taste in a nations mouth and portrayed a brutal and honest story about an ex green beret who comes back to an america who cant forget him and the war fast enough.
