Yes, I watched this movie for the first time last night. The first half of the movie was very entertaining. Suspenseful, captivating and the sense of 'what's going on?' really grabbed my attention. The whole chaos and how the family and people around them were reacting to the chaos was quite well done at first, even though the son annoyed the shit out of me. The mob scene was probably one of the best scenes when it came to showcasing how people may realistically react to the world being at 'war'. I understood what they were trying to convey with the son being stubborn and that he was wanting to fight back and attack the 'aliens', but it was done in such a non-logical, hot headed way, that it put me right off him and that sub-plot.
Then the movie just got more and more unrealistic and 'convenient'. Tom and daughter lost the son, after his [quote by arnarkin] 'Captain America phase'. So he ran off as he 'had to see and fight them'. Then there was the unrealistic capture of Tom and daughter, then Tom's bombing of the alien in such a lazy, unbelievably lucky way! Then all the aliens conveniently started to die, due to some 'convenient' nature reasoning…
After the world was 'safe again', they magically arrive at their destination, with their family safe and well. (Damn, the son lived!)
It had a great premise, as it stayed with this man and his kids throughout. The whole destruction of the earth was the side story to show human emotion and reactions to the unknown, and that was unique. (Reminded me of Signs) The movie just got really lazy after the action, and just became too 'convenient', as though they didn't know how to kill off these unstoppable creatures, so they randomly thought to seek 'convenience'.…
